Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه - Women who carry the Prophet's War Flag
This article will discuss one of the companions whose steadfastness of heart and faith should be emulated. She is Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه;. How is the story? Read the following article in full!
At the beginning of the migration from Makkah to Madinah, the Muslims faced two major wars, namely the Battle of Badr and the Battle of Uhud.
The Battle of Badr was successfully won by the Muslims, but a heartbreaking defeat occurred in the Battle of Uhud because several Muslim forces did not obey the orders of the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace.
In that bitter event, the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, was seriously injured and a number of his companions died as martyrs.
Among them, there was a companion named Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه who had to let go of her husband, brother, and uncle in the battle at Uhud Hill.
However, behind the deep grief, Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه; showed faith and fortitude that inspired many people. He accepted the ordeal sincerely to uphold the banner of Islam.
Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه;.was one of the women who converted to Islam in the early days of preaching in Makkah. Together with his sisters, Zainab and Abdullah, he pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, and accepted the Islamic treatise that he brought.
Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه;. has a noble lineage. Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه comes from Bani Asad bin Khuzaimah and is the sister of the wife of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, namely Zainah bint Jahsyرضي الله عنه.
In addition, Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه;. is also a cousin of the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam through his mother, Umaimah bint Abdil Muththalib, who is the aunt of the Prophet sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam.
In the course of her life, Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه married Mushab bin Umair bin Hasyim bin Abdi Manaf bin Abdid Dar, known as the first ambassador of Islam. From this marriage, God blessed them with a daughter.
Hamnah's faith was further tested when he migrated to Madinah. When the call for war to defend Islam, including in the Battle of Uhud, came, Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه did not hesitate to jump directly into the battlefield with her husband.
In that battle, Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه and 13 other companions carried out the noble task of giving drink and treating the wounded Muslim soldiers..
In a testimony, Muawiyah bin Ubaidullahرضي الله عنه bin Abi Ahmad bin Jahsy personally witnessed Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه 's steadfastness on the battlefield. He stated that Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه lovingly gave drinking water to the thirsty and treated the wounded.
However, after the Uhud War ended, a deep sadness struck Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه 's heart. Many Muslim families are asking about the fate of their warring brothers, and Hamnah is no exception.
At that moment, the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, gave Hamnah a message, "O Hamnah, expect a reward for your brother, Abdullah bin Jahsy." Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه answered patiently, "Innaa lillaahi wa innaa ilaihi raajiun (truly we come from Allah and only to Him we will return). May God have mercy on him and forgive his sins." At that moment, Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه saw the condition of Abdullah's corpse which was no longer intact.
The Prophet then spoke again to Hamnah, "O Hamnah, expect a reward for your uncle, Hamzah bin Abdil Muththalib." His heart broke again when he saw the condition of his uncle's body which had been torn to pieces.
And, when the Prophet said, "O Hamnah, expect a reward for your husband, Mus'ab bin Umairرضي الله عنه," Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه could no longer contain the sadness in her heart. Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه remembered his daughter who is now an orphan because her husband was martyred on the battlefield. Especially by seeing the condition of Mus'ab bin Umairرضي الله عنه's body which is very horrible.
At that moment, Mus'ab bin Umairرضي الله عنه's hands were cut off. In war, Mus'ab bin Umairرضي الله عنه was assigned as a bearer of the war flag.
Losing three people he loved very much at the same time was such a great ordeal. However, Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه remains firm, and sincere, and accepts all trials with patience.
In this strength of patience and contentment, Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه realized that the ordeal would actually raise her status in front of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala.
After her husband left, Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه lived with her only daughter. One day, one of the companions, Abu Talhah bin Ubaidillahرضي الله عنه, proposed to him. Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه remarried Abu Talhah bin Ubaidillahرضي الله عنه, and was blessed with two sons, Muhammad and Imran.
The story of Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه is a role model for every Muslim woman. Patience, firmness of heart, and firm faith in the face of trials are valuable lessons that can be taken from his life journey.
May the story of Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه's struggle inspire today's generation of women to be strong, sincere, and devoted to God and others. Amiin.
This is the article about Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه and the wisdom that we ummah would be able to contemplate and learn.
Marriage is something sacred. Choosing a mate in Islam certainly has rules. However, in the story above we can learn an important lesson for those living in the next era, namely that the partner who is replaced must have a higher standard than the previous partner. If you have to remarry because your previous wife/husband died, your next life partner must be superior to the previous one. At least the same quality as the previous one.
Mus'ab bin Umairرضي الله عنه was clearly a mujahid whose love for the Islamic religion had been proven. He even received the award of martyrdom in the Battle of Uhud. Because her standards were so high, Hamnah binti Jahsyرضي الله عنه had to get a husband who was on the same level as her previous husband. As a martyr, it is clear that Mus'ab bin Umairرضي الله عنه is guaranteed to enter heaven. Because of this, Abu Talhah bin Ubaidillahرضي الله عنه was chosen, who was also guaranteed by Allah to enter heaven. So here the quality of morals and position before Allah are equally noble or enter heaven.
Sometimes da'wah becomes stagnant in the current contemporary era, not because the quality of the individual preacher/daiyah is low, but because he married the wrong person. If a person has good qualities of worship, and his struggle for Islam is beyond doubt, then he should also marry someone who has the same qualifications so that there is no decline in competence. Because preaching is a matter for the people, marriage is also related to the future of preaching.
The story above once again gives us guidance in choosing a mate or choosing a soul mate. It often happens that when a husband/wife dies, a married person no longer considers the moral/religious qualities of the prospective husband/wife's successor, but is limited to worldly measures such as work or income. In fact, forming a socially healthy society, it starts with the formation of a sakinah mawaddah wa rahmah family. And to create such a family requires strict selectivity in choosing a life partner.
