The first of the Badri Companions [Companions of Rasulullahﷺ who participated in the Battle of Badr] that I will mention today is Tufail bin Harith رضي الله عنه.
Tufail bin Harith رضي الله عنه (Arabic: الطفيل بن الحارث, born in the year 38 before the Hijra (586) - died in 32 AH (653, age 67)) was a friend of Rasulullahﷺ from the emigrants. Tufail bin Harith رضي الله عنه along with his two brothers, Ubaidahرضي الله عنه and al-Hushainرضي الله عنه, followed the Battle of Badr. In that battle, Ubaidah رضي الله عنه was martyred. Ath-Thufail then also participated in the Battle of Uhud and other battles with Rasulullahﷺ.
His name is Tufail bin Harith رضي الله عنه. His father's name is al-Harith bin al-Muththalib bin Abdi-Manaf bin Qushay (from Bani Muththalib). His mother's name is Sukhailah bint Khuza'i ats-Tsaqafiyyah. He has a son named Amir. Rasulullahﷺ related him to al-Mundzir bin Muhammad رضي الله عنه, or to Sufyan bin Nasar al-Anshari according to Ibn Ishaq.
Tufail bin Harith رضي الله عنه was the son of al-Harith ibn Sakhbara, who was from the Azd tribe, and Umm Ruman bint Amir, who was from the al-Harith tribe of the Kinana group.
The family migrated to Makkah, where his father became the ally of Abu Bakr. Soon afterward, al-Harith died, leaving Tufail bin Harith رضي الله عنه and his widowed mother completely dependent on Abu Bakr. Abu Bakr married Umm Ruman c.601.
Tufail bin Harith رضي الله عنه was the owner of the slave Amir ibn Fuhayra رضي الله عنه, whom he later sold to his stepfather.
When their mother emigrated to Madinah in 622, Tufayl and his brother Abdulrahman remained in Makkah.
He passed away in the 32nd year of Hijra at the age of 70.
