Ummu Waraqah Binti Abdullah Bin Al Harits رضي الله عنه - A Martyr Killed By Her Two Slaves In Her Own House.

Umm Waraqah Binti Abdillah bin al-Harits bin ‘Uwaimir bin Naufal al-Anshariyah or better known as Umm Waraqah Binti Naufal رضي الله عنه was among the first to convert to Islam, Umm Waraqah Binti Naufal رضي الله عنه converted to Islam when she first heard it sincerely and without hesitation. During her life, she also collected the Qur'an al-Karim and narrated many hadiths. Umm Waraqah Binti Naufal رضي الله عنه is good at reading, understanding, and memorizing the Qur'an well so that she becomes an imam for Muslim women in her house which is also used as a mosque. Umm Waraqah bint Abdillah is a martyr who was killed by her two slaves in her own house.

Umm Waraqah binti Naufal رضي الله عنه converted to Islam.

When the intimidation of the friends of Rasulullah became more and more so in Makkah, by the command of AllahRasulullah allowed them to migrate to Madinah. And he immediately followed suit. The presence of Rasulullah who brought the great pamphlet has been awaited by the people of Madinah who are pure and sincere. One of them is Umm Waraqah binti Naufal رضي الله عنه. She converted to Islam from the first time she heard it and narrated many hadiths. So it is worth entering the caravan Assabiquun al Awwaluun, as mentioned in the:

Qur'an surah At Taubah: 100,

“Those who were before and who was the first (to convert to Islam) among the Muhajireen and Anshar and those who followed them well, Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Allah and Allah has made for them gardens that rivers flow in it. They abide in it forever. That is a great victory. "

Gratitude and Takbir welcome the arrival of Rasulullahﷺ.

Imam Ibn al -Qayyim said, “Echoes of gratitude and takbir are heard loudly in all corners of the village of Bani‘ Amr bin ‘Auf. Takbir echoed everywhere, as an expression of gratitude. The people of Yathrib came out of their houses together to welcome the arrival of Rasulullah and say shalawat as he taught.

They stood in a line around him, while Rasulullahﷺ seemed very calm, and the revelation came down to him:

"... So verily Allah is his Protector and (so is) Jibril and the good believers; and besides that, the angels are his helpers as well."

(QS.At Tahrim: 4)

That day was the most lively day experienced by the people of Madinah in history.

After the Friday prayers, Rasulullah entered the city of Yathrib, which since that day was renamed the city of Madinah. Umm Waraqah binti Naufal رضي الله عنه is one of the residents of Madinah who is very grateful and happy with the presence of the Rasulullah. That happiness penetrated the recesses of her heart. Because of his personality (Rasulullahﷺ )has long been heard, and Rasulullahﷺ's treatise has long been believed.

Believers are worshipers

Allah guidance penetrates the deepest recesses of his heart. Faith is also strong in his heart. Umm Waraqah binti Naufal رضي الله عنه paid obeisance to Rasulullah . From then on, he began to study the verses of Allah ‘Azza Wa Jalla earnestly. Umm Waraqah Binti Naufal رضي الله عنه is not only good at reading it, but also understands and memorizes it well.

More than that, Umm Waraqah Binti Naufal رضي الله عنه also tried to collect and write it on bones, skin, palm fronds, and others. She managed to collect the verses of Allah 'Azza Wa Jalla that came down in her house at that time. After Rasulullahﷺ demised, and Sayidina Abu Bakr As Siddique رضي الله عنه planned to compile the Qur’an, Umm Waraqah Binti Naufal رضي الله عنه  was appointed Caliph to be one of the important references for Zaid bin Tsabit as the executor of the project.

Umm Waraqah Binti Naufal رضي الله عنه  in the eyes of Rasulullah

Rasulullah  had great respect for Umm Waraqah Binti Naufal رضي الله عنه . Rasulullahﷺ regularly visited her home as a form of respect. Rasulullahﷺ also appointed an elderly muezzin specifically for her. On the advice of Rasulullahﷺ who really understood the cleanliness and clarity of his heart, Umm Waraqah Binti Naufal رضي الله عنه made her house a mosque. And she is a special imam for Muslim women.

The death of Umm Waraqah binti Abdillah رضي الله عنه

Umm Waraqah Binti Naufal رضي الله عنه is a woman who so hopes for glory in the hereafter. When the Muslims were preparing for the Battle of Badr, Umm Waraqah Binti Naufal رضي الله عنه asked permission from  Rasulullah to participate in the war.

"O Messenger of Allah, allow me to go with you so that I can take care of the sick and treat the injured. Hopefully, with that,  Allah will grant me martyrdom, ”she asked.

“Stay in your house! Indeed, Allah will grant you martyrdom in your home, "replied the Rasulullah.

Umm Waraqah Binti Naufal رضي الله عنه also obeyed the command of Rasulullah.

Time keeps rolling. The time came for the Muslims to be ruled by the Commander of the Faithful, Sayidina Umar ibn Khattab رضي الله عنه. At that time, Umm Waraqah Binti Naufal رضي الله عنه, as usual, always led her family members in prayer.

But one night, the recitation of the Qur'an was not heard in prayer. Therefore, in the morning, the Commander of the Faithful commented in surprise, "By God, last night I did not hear the recitation of my aunt, Umm Waraqah."

The Commander of the Faithful did not remain silent. Sayidina Umar ibn Khattab رضي الله عنه immediately found out about Umm Waraqah Binti Naufal رضي الله عنه,'s condition. Sayidina Umar ibn Khattab رضي الله عنه entered Umm Waraqah's house, but no one was seen there.

The Commander of the Faithful continued to walk towards the room. On one side of the room, Ummu Waraqah's body lay stiffly covered with a blanket. Meanwhile, Ummu Waraqah's boys and girls who lived with her in the house could no longer see their noses.

Apparently, that night Umm Waraqah Binti Naufal رضي الله عنه, was killed by a pair of her slaves by covering her with a blanket until Umm Waraqah Binti Naufal رضي الله عنه, breathed her last. In fact, Umm Waraqah Binti Naufal رضي الله عنه, always educated them both and was kind to both of them. Just because they couldn't wait to breathe a sigh of freedom as promised by the master if she had died, they had the courage to do so to this pious woman. After killing Umm Waraqah Binti Naufal رضي الله عنه,, the two slaves escaped.

Knowing the incident,  Sayidina Umar ibn Khattab رضي الله عنه said, "Allah and His Messenger have been true!"  Sayidina Umar ibn Khattab رضي الله عنه immediately announced in front of the people, “Indeed Ummu Waraqah was killed by her two slaves. Now they both ran away. Whoever sees them, must bring them here! ”

The two slaves who betrayed and wreaked havoc on the earth by killing were successfully captured. They were presented to  Sayidina Umar ibn Khattab رضي الله عنه.  Sayidina Umar ibn Khattab رضي الله عنه even questioned them, and they both confessed to his actions.

Sayidina Umar ibn Khattab رضي الله عنه decided that these two slaves should be crucified. They were the first to be crucified in the land of Madinah.

Hadith Umm Waraqah Bint Abdullah Bin Al Harith Al Ansari;

Hadith Ahmad 26022

Stay at home because indeed Allah Azza Wa Jalla will give you martyrdom. While the woman had given the promise of independence to the female slaves and her male slaves after she died. Then Umm Waraqah stayed for a long time with her two slaves, but then, they hugged her with a thick cloth until she died.

The two slaves then fled, when Umar came, the incident was told to him, that Umm Waraqah had been killed by her male and female slaves, then they both fled. So Umar stood in front of the people and gave a speech, Indeed the Messenger of Allah once visited Umm Waraqah and said: Go you, we will visit As Syahidah (a woman who died a martyr), & indeed Fulanah & Fulan his slave has covered it with a thick cloth, then the two fled. So let no one protect them both, whoever gets both should bring both. So both were brought and then crucified, then this is the beginning of the crucified people in Islam.

Ordering him to lead his family prayers, she has a caller to prayer & she becomes an imam in her house.
