Maslamah ibn Mukhallad ibn Samit al-Ansariرضي الله عنه (Arabicمسلمة بن مخلد بن صامت الأنصاري, Maslama ibn Mukhallad ibn Ṣāmit al-Anṣārī) to whom the economics Abu Ma'nرضي الله عنه or Sa'id رضي الله عنه or Umarرضي الله عنه are ascribed, was one of the companions of Rasulullah and active in Egypt in the decades after its conquest by the Muslim.

When Rasulullah migrated to Madinah, Maslamah Bin Mukhallad Khazraji رَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ was 4 years old at that time whereas according to one opinion he was born during the first year of the migration.

After the conquest of Egypt, Maslamah Bin Mukhallad Khazraji رَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ stayed there for some period then he arrived in Madinah. But  Maslamah Bin Mukhallad Khazraji رَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ later moved to Egypt.  Maslamah Bin Mukhallad Khazraji رَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ had a heavy body.  Despite this fact, he used to worship extensively.

Responsibility of  Maslamah Bin Mukhallad Khazrajiرَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ during Sayidina Umar Ibn Al Khattab رَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ  era' Maslamah Bin Mukhallad Khazraji رَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ would collect Zakah and Sadaqahs from the rich and distribute amongst the poor as ordered by Sayyidina ‘Umar ibn Al Khatab رَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ

Maslamah Bin Mukhallad Khazraji رَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ was foremost in the conquests of Egypt. He had also been very helpful in fixing the boundaries of Egypt.  Maslamah Bin Mukhallad Khazraji رَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ was appointed as the governor of Egypt in 47 AH.  Maslamah Bin Mukhallad Khazraji رَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ was also blessed with the governorship of Africa in 50 AH; so  Maslamah Bin Mukhallad Khazraji رَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ was the first one to become the governor of Egypt and Africa at the same time.

Sayyidina ‘Amr Bin ‘Aas consulted  Maslamah Bin Mukhallad Khazraji.

The great army chief and sagacious blessed companion, Sayyiduna ‘Amr Bin ‘Aas رَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ would also consult Maslamah Bin Mukhallad Khazraji رَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ

This was the Maslamah Bin Mukhallad Khazraji رَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ who persuaded Sayyidina Amir Mu’awiyah رَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ to send an Islamic army to conquer Constantinople; so, an Islamic army was sent in 49 AH.

Out of them, 4,000 names of people were mentioned in 200 registers. Maslamah Bin Mukhallad Khazraji رَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ received such a great amount of collection from Egypt that he not only distributed stipends and salaries to all these people but also distributed the provision amongst their families and the grief-stricken as well as also amongst other people. As per one opinion, Maslamah Bin Mukhallad Khazraji رَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ passed away in Madinah during the rule of Sayyiduna Amir Mu’awiyah رَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ

Very few Ahadith have been narrated by Sayyiduna Maslamah Bin Mukhallad Khazraji رَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ. Read a blessed HadIth:

Maslamah Bin Mukhallad Khazraji رَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ has narrated, the Beloved Rasool صَلَّى اللّٰهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم has stated, ‘Whoever conceals the faults of a Muslim, Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ will conceal his faults in this life and the Hereafter; whoever removes a hardship, Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ will remove one of the hardships of the Day of Judgement from him, and Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ will keep fulfilling the need of the one who will keep fulfilling the need of his brother.’

May Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ have mercy on him and forgive us for his sake!

Maslamah Bin Mukhallad Khazraji رَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ was an adherent of the third CaliphUthman ibn Affan, and refused to recognize the succession of Muhammad's son-in-law Ali after Uthman's murder.  Consequently, he was one of the leaders of the pro-Uthman party, under Mu'awiya ibn Hudayj, and participated in their revolt against governor Muhammad ibn Abi Hudhayfa in 657, until the governor of SyriaMu'awiya ibn Abi Sufyan, reimposed order.

In 658, as the conflict between Ali and the Syria-based Umayyads under Mu'awiya ibn Abi Sufyan became open, he opposed Ali's appointment of Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr as governor of Egypt, and he probably participated in the Syrian invasion under Amr ibn al-As that led to Ibn Abi Bakr's defeat, capture and execution in the summer of that year.

Maslama served loyally under Amr ibn al-As, who was governor of Egypt until his death in January 664 but remained on the sidelines under his three successors, Abd Allah ibn Amr al-Asرَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ Utba ibn Abi Sufyanرَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ and Uqba ibn Amirرَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ. Finally, in 667/8, Maslamah himself petitioned Mu'awiya ibn Abi Sufyan, now Caliph, and was appointed governor of Egypt. He held the post until 670 according to al-Tabari, though other sources report that he governed the country continuously until his death on 9 April 682.

Little is known of his tenure, except that he was active in the wars against the Byzantine Empire, sending regular expeditions against them, and rebuilt the Mosque of Amr ibn al-As in Fustat, to which he added minarets. Otherwise, his period of office seems to have been one of domestic tranquility. Some sources claim that Maslama was also responsible for the Muslim campaigns in Ifriqiya and the Maghreb in general, although others insist that these areas did not come under his authority until ca. 675; at any rate, he replaced Uqba ibn Nafi, who had been in charge in Ifriqiya until then, with Abu al-Muhajir Dinar in 671 or in 675.

Maslamah رَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُremained a firm adherent of the Umayyads to the last, and when Mu'awiyaرَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ died in 680, he immediately recognized his son, Yazid I, as his successor; he reportedly threatened even Amr ibn al-As'sرَضِىَ اللّٰەُ عَنْهُ son Abdallah, another Companion and respected hadith scholar, with execution when he objected.
