Sayidina Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr RA
Sayidina Abdullah RA was born
in Makkah, the son of Sayidina Abu Bakr ibn Abi Quhafa, from the Taim clan
of the Quraysh tribe, and of Qutaylah bint Abd-al-Uzza, who was
from the Amir ibn Luayy clan. His parents were divorced soon before
or soon after his birth
When Rasulullah ﷺ
and Sayidina Abu Bakr As Siddique ra migrated from Makkah in 622, Abu Bakr
instructed Sayidina Abdullah RA to listen to adult conversations and to report
the day's news to them at the cave on Mount Thur each night. Abdullah duly
reported that the Quraysh had offered a hundred camels to anyone who captured Rasulullah ﷺ.
Each morning, when he left the cave, the family servant would lead a
flock of sheep over the same route to cover his tracks.
Emigration to Madinah
A few months later, Sayidina Abdullah
ra emigrated to Madinah in the company of his stepmother and two
sisters.
In 630 Sayidina
Abdullah ra fought at the Siege of Ta'if, where the Thaqafite poet, Abu
Mihjan, shot him with an arrow. This wound ultimately caused his death,
although he survived for nearly three years afterwards.
Hijrah is not only understood as
the migration of Rasulullah ﷺ and his companions from Makkah to Madinah,
but it is a beginning to the formation of the ummah and the construction of the
first Islamic state. The migration agenda was achieved through a variety of
structured strategies as well as the involvement of important characters who
have their own quality characteristics.
Muslims should take lessons and
emulate the nature and personality qualities of the main characters in the
migration of Rasulullah ﷺ such as Sayidina Abu
Bakr al-Siddiq RA, Sayidina Ali bin Abu Talib RA, Abdullah bin Abu Bakar RA,
Aisyah bint Abu Bakar RA, Asma 'bin Abu Bakr RA, Amir bin Fuhayrah RA and
Abdullah bin Urayqit.
Sayidina Ali bin Abu Talib RA was
assigned by Rasulullah ﷺ to sleep in his place
as a trick to confuse the enemy. The nature of strength and courage, smart and
wise in dealing with various matters as well as having self -confidence, peace
of mind and firm steps make him successful in carrying out the responsibilities
entrusted to him.
Sayidina Abdullah bin Abu Bakar
RA is a special spy who is a young man who has a high level of courage,
sensitive to the surrounding environment, sharp hearing, careful thinking and
trust in delivery. These attributes are important to ensure that the
information conveyed to the leader is accurate.
Saidatuna Asma 'RA and her sister
Saidatuna Aisyah RA acted to provide food for Rasulullah ﷺ and Sayidina Abu
Bakar al-Siddiq ra in the cave. Saidatuna Aisyah RA, although still young, also
helped her sister prepare food at home, while Saidatuna Asma 'RA took her to
the cave. He is able to do the job because of the nature of patience and high commitment
in carrying out all plans.
Sayidina Abu Bakr al-Siddiq RA's
servant, Sayidina Amir bin Fuhayrah RA, had the role of bringing cattle through
the streets passed by Sayidina Abdullah ra, the son of Sayidina Abu Bakr ra who
went to the hiding place of Sayidina Abu Bakr ra and Rasulullah ﷺ
to convey information to remove Sayidina Abdullah's footprints to the door.
the cave. Sayidina Amir bin Fuhayrah RA was a goatherd and former slave whose
involvement in such an important work was not expected.
In addition, in the event of
migration, Rasulullah ﷺ and Sayidina Abu Bakr al-Siddiq RA had hired a
polytheist named Abdullah bin Urayqit as a guide so that it could not be
detected by the polytheists of Makkah. The nature of the trust that he possesses
as well as sticking to promises has been utilized in order to maintain the
confidentiality of planning and strategy. He is also experienced and has
expertise in recognizing the roads in the desert. The matter shows that non
-Muslims can also contribute to the welfare agenda provided they do not fight
Islam, have skills, experience and expertise that can be utilized as well as
have commitment and trust in the tasks performed.
The formation of the Muslim community in Madinah as a result
of the migration of Rasulullah ﷺ and his companions based on faith, sharia
and morality finally gave birth to a best ummah or khaira ummah as stated in
the Qur'an Surah Ali Imran verse 110 means:
"You (O people of Muhammad) are the best people born
for mankind, (because) you enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong (evil
and vile) and you believe in Allah. If the People of the Book had believed, it
would have been good for them. Among them are believers, and most of them are
transgressors. "
Surah Ali
Imran: 110
A quality ummah has Rabbani
characteristics such as prioritizing harmony, loving, having spiritual
stability and a sense of godliness, performing virtues, upholding justice, and
being kind to humanity.
Apart from that, a quality ummah
is always moderate and balanced and stays away from extremes to achieve glory
and success in this world and in the hereafter. Allah's words in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 143 which means:
"And thus (as We have guided
you to the straight path), We have made you (O people of Muhammad) a nation
chosen and just, that you may be worthy of giving a testimony to mankind (about
right and wrong) and the Messenger (Muhammad) will be the one who explains the
truth of your deeds. "
Surah
Al-Baqarah: 143
These Rabbani characteristics are
in fact developed starting from oneself, family, society and country.
Thus, all levels of society,
whether citizens or leaders, have a role to play in translating the divine
attributes and quality characteristics from the important character of the
migratory event in community and national life to face the various storms of
life that hit.
Sometimes, a contribution that
may be considered small, such as providing food to the needy when a pandemic
hits the country, if done with sincere and perfect intentions, means a lot to
the success of the welfare agenda. In the end, the help and assistance of Allah
will only be present with the qualities and attributes of the Rabbani developed
in every human being.
Marriage
Sayidina Abdullah RA
married Sayidina Atiqah bint Zayd ra, a poet from the Adi clan
of the Quraysh. This marriage was childless. It was said that Sayidina Abdullah
ra deferred to Atiqah's judgment and that he spent so much time with her that
he neglected his duties to the Islamic state. Sayidina Abu Bakr RA punished his
son by ordering him to divorce her.
Sayidina Abdullah RA officially
divorced Saidatuna Atikah ra. But Sayidina Abdullah's heart was engraved in Saidatuna
Atikah's love booth. Can't move let alone get out. Sayidina Abu Bakr RA one day
heard Sayidina Abdullah RA dissolve in sad poetry. Again, everything about Saidatuna
Atikah RA. Sayidina Abdullah's RA every word tried to invite his father's
sympathy. That's how deep love is. When separated Sayidina Abu Bakr RA hoped to
be separated from that arrogant love. But after being separated, Atikah's love
has turned into a prison and shackles that make her unable to do anything.
Sayidina Abdullah's RA heart
suddenly narrowed. And only able to recite Saidatuna Atikah
RA. Saidatuna Atikah RA. is too
perfect in Sayidina Abdullah's RA eyes. Finally, Sayidina Abu Bakr RA allowed
his son to return to his wife.
Another story says, when Rasulullah ﷺ learned of the matter, he cancelled
the divorce, and the two lovers were reunited. After that, Sayidina Abdullah RA was very particular about keeping
his love for Saidatuna Atikah from getting in the way of his duty to Islam.
Sayidina Abdullah RA again
spilled his happiness in beautiful strands
O Atikah, I have really divorced him
Now I have returned at the behest of those present
That's the decision of God who comes and goes
In humans, whether comfortable or not
My heart disappears every time I remember the breakup
And my heart becomes calm again because Allah has brought it
closer
Congratulations to you, I don't see any wrath
And you are even more special
You are among the people who are respected by Allah
And no one can destroy something that Allah loves
Sayidina Abdullah RA did as he
was told but was grief-stricken. Sayidina Abdullah RA wrote poetry for Saidatuna
Atiqah ra:
I have never known a man like me divorce a woman like
her,
nor any woman like her divorced for no fault of her own.
Role in the Hijrah of the Prophet
Sayidina Abdullah bin Abi Bakar RA is
a figure who should be remembered. Sayidina Abu Bakr's son was involved in the
rescue effort of Rasulullah ﷺ and Sayidina Abu
Bakr RA during the migration to Madinah. Sayidina Abdullah's RA task is not
simple. Sayidina Abdullah bin Abi Bakar RA had to sit all day listening to all
the talk of the Quraish dignitaries in Makkah about Rasulullah ﷺ and his
father who were in the Cave of Thur.
In the afternoon before dark, he had to walk to the Thur
Cave which is located in the south of Makkah for about 4 km with a cave height
of more than 700 M above sea level.
The trip was aimed at telling Rasulullah ﷺ and his
father about all the news that was in Makkah. The next morning, he had to be in
Makkah again to do the same. And in the afternoon walk back towards Thur Cave.
For three days Rasulullah ﷺ and Sayidina Abu Bakr RA stayed
in the Cave of Thur, that was Sayidina Abdullah's job. Certainly, a struggle
that is not light, tiring, and dangerous.
Sayidina Abu Bakr's RA family has always been special. In
the migration of Rasulullah ﷺ, the family of Abu Bakr played a role.
Children, helpers until she is involved. Sayidina Abdullah RA was present and educated
in the noble family.
Sayidina Abdullah RA the lover. Not only the heart is
controlled by love. Mind, hands, feet and even his whole life. Love made him
stop. Unable to move. There is no visible movement that he made on the night of
the migration. Love stops its glorious movement. Love controls his mind. Love
dominates his words. And at all times only love and love.
Love can change everything. Ibn
Hazm, who wrote the book Fikih Al Muhalla, changed like a different figure when
he talked about love in his book Thauqul Hamamah.
Similarly, Abdullah, a migration fighter, seems to be a
different figure when it comes to Atikah's love. That is a Allah SWT -given
taste. Most importantly everything remains glorious.
But it was a pity when he took part
in the Thai battle when an arrow shot at him and hit him so hard that he fell
on the battlefield. The event took place in 633 AD in the first year of the
caliphate of Sayidina Abu Bakr RA.
In the end, Sayidina Abdullah RA was allowed to take Saidatuna
Atiqah RA back before her waiting period was completed.
Death
Abdullah died in January 633, when his old wound from Ta'if
flared up. His wife composed an elegy for him.
I vow that my soul will remain in sorrow over thee
and my skin will remain dusty.
Atikah also read the poem:
رزيت بخير الناس بعد نبيهم
و بعد أبي بكر و ما كان قصرا
وآليت لا تنفك عيني حزينة
عليك لا ينفك جلدي أغبرا
فلله عينا من رأى مثله فتى
أكر و أحمى في الهياج و أصبرا
إذا شرعت فيه الأسنة خاضها
إلى الموت ختى يترك الرمح أحمرا
"I have been protected by the best of human beings after the Prophet
And after Abu Bakr, and he never ignored me.
And I swear these eyes will never stop grieving for you
And this skin will always wear out
O!, I wish there were eyes that saw a young man like him.
He attacks and protects in a raging war full of patience ...
After the event passed, Sayidina Umar ibn Khattab RA married
Saidatuna Atikah RA, and held a wedding party.
Among the guests who came was Sayidina Ali bin Abi Talib RA.
Then Sayidina Ali RA asked permission to Umar to deliver some speeches for Saidatuna
Atikah RA. Sayidina Umar Al Khattab RA also allowed
So, Sayidina Ali RA delivered some words to Atikah from
behind the hijab
يا عدية نفسها !...
و آليت لا تنفك عيني قريرة
عليك ولا ينفك جلدي أصفرا
"O woman who abandoned her soul
I swear these eyes will never stop to be happy for you
And this skin will never stop turning yellow because of it.
Hearing Ali's words, Atikah wept (because she remembered
Abdullah), so that Umar asked:
"What made you cry?"
"Every woman must do this," replied Atikah.
