Arwa Binti Abdul Muttalib Supports Rasulullah's Struggle

There are many stories of great women in the history of Islam who should be role models for Muslims. Arwa bint Abdul Muttalib, the aunt of Rasulullah, is one example. She was a well-respected woman in the age of ignorance and Islam. He was known as an intelligent man and had the ability to write poetry.

Arwa was born in Makkah around 560 AD. She was the daughter of Abdul Muttalib ibn Hashim and Fatimah bint Amr who came from the Makhzum tribe, the Quraish tribe. Arwa's first husband was Umayr ibn Wahb. From the result of his marriage was awarded a son named Tulaib bin Umair.

Her second husband was Arta ibn Sharahbil ibn Hashim. The second husband was blessed with a daughter named Fatimah. Arwa is a leading female figure in the history of Islam. She converted to Islam in Makkah and migrated to Madinah.

Arwa is recorded as someone who always supported Rasulullah. Before embracing Islam, he had supported the mission of Rasulullah. Arwa even gave support when his son, Saiyidina Tulaib Bin Umair رضي الله عنه, professed Islam in Darul Arqam bin Abu Al-Arqam Al-Makhzumi.

Saiyidina Tulaib Bin Umair رضي الله عنه met his mother after converting to Islam and said, "I followed Rasulullah and converted to Islam for the sake of Allah." Then the Spirit responded to what his son said. Arwa said: "It is true if you support and help your cousin Muhammad. For God's sake, if we can do what the men did to support him, of course, we will follow him and defend him," said Arwa.

Saiyidina Tulaib Bin Umair رضي الله عنه had a large share that made Arwa Binti Abdul Mutallb رضي الله عنه   finally embrace Islam. Before that, there was a conversation between Arwa and Saiyidina Tulaib Bin Umair رضي الله عنه. "What else is stopping you from converting to Islam and following Muhammad, Rasulullahﷺ.In fact, your brother Hamzah has also converted to Islam," said Saiyidina Tulaib Bin Umair رضي الله عنه. "So I beg you to please Allah that you want to come to Muhammad, convert to Islam, justify it and testify that there is no God but Allah and Muhammad as the messenger of Allah," said Saiyidina Tulaib Bin Umair رضي الله عنه in his confession.

Then Arwa Binti Abdul Muthallb converted to Islam and became one of those who continued to be behind Rasulullah in supporting his da'wah. She even invited his son to help Rasulullahﷺ and do what he was taught. It was narrated once when Abu Jahl and some Quraish dignitaries hurt RasulullahSaiyidina Tulaib Bin Umair رضي الله عنه, then deliberately went to Abu Jahal's place and hit him hard on the head. So the people near Abu Jahal summed it up. Then Abu Jahal approached and released him.

Upon Saiyidina Tulaib Bin Umair رضي الله عنه,'s actions, the people close to Abu Jahal then said to Arwa Binti Abdul Muthallb, "Do you not see that your son the Tulaib is now being rude near Muhammad?" "I see that some days he is getting better after he filled his day by always defending his cousin Rasulullah. Indeed Rasulullah brought the true teachings from the side of Allah," replied Arwa Binti Abdul Muthallb. "Have you also become a follower of Muhammad?" they asked. "Yes," replied Arwa Binti Abdul Muthallb.

Hearing the confession of Arwa Binti Abdul Muthallb who also embraced Islam, they then informed Abu Lahab. Abu Lahab immediately met Arwa Binti Abdul Muthallb and said, "It is really surprising of you, O Arwa. Why did you become a follower of Muhammad and you live in the religion of Abdul Muthalib?" Hearing Abu Lahab's words, Arwa Binti Abdul Muthallb responded calmly and even asked to help Rasulullah.

"That's how it is," said Arwa Binti Abdul Muthallb. "Then try to support your nephew, tire, and defend himself. If he gives teaching, then you have two choices, whether you convert to Islam or you still hold on to your religion. If he is right, ask sorry for choosing to join your nephew Muhammad, ".

"We have great power and strength in Arabia which is collectively opposing the coming of a new religion," Abu Lahab said as he left. Arwa's answers to the pressure from Abu Jahal, Abu Lahab, and the leaders of Quraish did not make him retreat from helping RasulullahArwa Binti Abdul Muthallb رضي الله عنه  was also very sad when Rasulullah died. Arwa Binti Abdul Muthallb رضي الله عنه even made a poem about his death.

It is not surprising that Arwa Binti Abdul Muthallb رضي الله عنه has such great wisdom. This is so because, she is the daughter and flesh and blood of a great man as well, Abdul Muttalib, the grandfather of Rasulullah, and the leader of the Quraish tribe.

The example obtained through his own biological father, Abdul Muttalib, Arwa Binti Abdul Muthallb رضي الله عنه grew up in the education and upbringing of his father who was respected by/as a friend and opponent. This is reflected in Arwa Binti Abdul Muthallb رضي الله عنه's own words about his biological father:

"It is reasonable to want my eyes to drop warm clear water,

and my heart is moved when I remember my father's

 very generous and shy nature."

At another time, Arwa Binti Abdul Muthallb رضي الله عنه also praised the goodness of Rasulullah and his honesty:

"O Rasulullah,

On you depends our hope,

We cannot forget your kindness,

Indeed you have never committed a sin or abomination."

After contributing services and devotion to Islam throughout her life, then finally this great woman returned to Allah's mercy, namely in the 15th year of the Hijra.
