Uqbah bin Al Hariths رضي الله عنه

Uqbah bin Haritsرضي الله عنه, whose name was Abu Sirwa'ah, once married the daughter of Abu Ihab bin Aziz. After some time had passed, an old woman came to meet him and said, "Indeed I used to breastfeed you, and I also breastfed the woman who became your wife..!"

Uqbah bin Haritsرضي الله عنه was surprised by the woman's confession. That means he and his wife are still blood relatives, thus they are still "mahram" and forbidden to marry. Uqbah bin Haritsرضي الله عنه said, "I didn't know that you used to breastfeed me, and you never told me about it!!"

Uqbah bin Haritsرضي الله عنه rushed to Madinah to meet Rasulullah to tell him about the problem, and Uqbah bin Haritsرضي الله عنه said, "How else when it is already clear (the law)....!!"

Uqbah bin Haritsرضي الله عنه didn't ask much anymore. After thanking and greeting him, he hurried back to his place of residence and then divorced his wife. Although in fact he still loves his wife very much, and the marriage has not lasted long, the choice to live a marriage according to the instructions of Rasulullah is a choice that cannot be negotiated anymore.

Sometime later, after his iddah was over, his ex-wife, who was still his blood relative, remarried someone else. Let us look further at the above event.

Classification: Fiqh and Uṣūl Fiqh. Family Jurisprudence. Breastfeeding.

From 'Uqbah bin al-Hāriṡرضي الله عنه, according to marfū', he married Umm Yahya bint Abi Ihābرضي الله عنه. Then came a black slave woman who said, "I have nursed you both." So I conveyed that to Rasulullah-." Uqbah bin al-Hāriṡرضي الله عنه said, "he turned away from me". Uqbah bin al-Hāriṡرضي الله عنه said again, "I approached him, then I mentioned it to him." Uqbah bin al-Hāriṡرضي الله عنه" How (again), he admitted that she had breastfed you two?!"

Authentic hadith - Narrated by Bukhari

Description

Uqbah bin al-Hāriṡرضي الله عنه married Umm Yahya binti Abi Ihābرضي الله عنه, then a black slave girl came to inform him that he had nursed 'Uqbah and nursed his wife, and that they were both siblings. He also conveyed the boy's words to Rasulullah- and that the boy lied in his confession. So Rasulullah- said -denied the will of 'Uqbah to stay with his wife- even though there was already the testimony of the slave woman, "How could you do that, even though the slave woman had said what she said, and he testifies according to what he knows?”

Even if you're fast, you still have calm sometimes. However, this does not mean that we mean praying fast - very fast - so that there is no thuma'ninah as is the erroneous behavior of some congregation members who perform tarawih prayers in the month of Ramadhan. That's not our intention. There must still be thuma'ninah or a calm attitude in prayer because thuma'ninah is part of the pillars of prayer. However, if someone moves quickly in doing good deeds, it can be commendable, as happened to Rasulullah one time.

The following hadith was presented by Imam Nawawi in his work Riyadhus Sholihin in the chapter "Hurry up in goodness and advice to people who are heading towards goodness to face it seriously without hesitation". The following is one of the hadiths that Rahimahullah narrated.

From Abu Sirwa'ah that is 'Uqbah bin Haritsرضي الله عنه, he once said,

"I once prayed 'Asr behind Rasulullah, in Madinah. When greeted, he quickly stood up. Then he stepped over the necks of the congregation to go to some of his wives' rooms. The companions were surprised by the quick movement of Rasulullah, at that time. Then he, may God bless him and grant him peace, came out. He also knew that they were surprised at his quick movement. Then Rasulullah said, "I remembered a piece of gold (unformed) that we had (and intended to give in charity). I don't like being held for a long time. Therefore, I ordered that the gold be distributed immediately."

(HR. Bukhari no. 851).

Al Jauhari says that "tibr" mentioned in the hadith is not meant except for gold as mentioned by Ibnu Hajar in Al Fath, 2: 337. Imam Nawawi in Riyadhus Sholihin says that "tibr" is a piece of gold or silver.

Benefits of Hadith

The following are some of the benefits of Ibn Hajar mentioned in Fathul Bari (2: 337).

1- Silence for a moment after greeting the prayer is not obligatory, as was exemplified by Rasulullah above, he did not make dhikr after the prayer at that time.

2- Stepping over other congregation members when a need (need) is still permitted.

3- Thinking about other things outside of prayer does not harm the prayer and does not reduce the perfection of the prayer as Rasulullah- thought about alms that had not been distributed at that time.

4- Determining in the middle of the prayer to do something else after the prayer is finished also does not violate the prayer.

5- Representing others to distribute alms or zakat even though you can do it yourself is still permissible.

Sheikh Salim bin 'Ied provides other benefits as follows.

1- It is permissible to be surprised or amazed at people who do something unusual, as was the surprise of the companions of Rasulullah who were seen moving fast for the first time.

2- Whoever sees something strange in the eyes of his friends, let him remove the suspicion or strangeness.

3- Immediately carry out good deeds as exemplified by Rasulullah- who did not want to delay distributing alms.

4- It is sunnah to free yourself from things that disturb your mind and can distract you from being closer to Allah.

5- Going fast doesn't mean not being calm.

Hopefully, we can take advantage of the valuable benefits of the hadith above and learn from it. Only Allah gives taufik.
