Unais bin Qatadahرضي الله عنه bin Rabi'ah Al Ausi Al Ansari Al Madani (Arabic: أنيس بن قتادة ) is one of the Companions of Rasulullahﷺ who is little known to Muslims. He is known as one of the martyrs of the Battle of Uhud in 625 AD. Unais bin Qatadahرضي الله عنه came from the Ansar, the Aus tribe. The story is also contained in Gazwatul Badr. At that time, Unais bin Qatadahرضي الله عنه took part in the battle with other Muslims against the Quraish infidels in 624 AD. It is known that he was martyred at the hands of a man named Al-Akhnas bin Syuraiq who also killed another Companion of Rasulullahﷺ named Abdullah bin Jahsy Al Asadiرضي الله عنه from Bani Asad bin Khuzaimah.
The lineage of Unais bin Qatadahرضي الله عنه is Unais bin Qatadahرضي الله عنه bin Rabi'ah bin Khalid bin Al-Harits bin Zaid bin Ubaid bin Zaid Manat bin Malik bin Auf bin Amr bin Auf bin Malik bin Al-Aus Al Anshari. So, Unais bin Qatadahرضي الله عنه belonged to the Bani Aus which was the largest group in the Ansar apart from the Bani Khazraj.
Unais bin Qatadahرضي الله عنه was one of Rasulullahﷺ's friends from the Ansar. He took part in the Battle of Badr. Then he died a martyr's death in the Battle of Uhud. Unais bin Qatadahرضي الله عنه died without leaving any children because he had just married before he was martyred. Unais bin Qatadahرضي الله عنه left behind a wife who was also a friend of Rasulullahﷺ named Khansa bint Khidzamرضي الله عنه . After Unais bin Qatadahرضي الله عنه was martyred, his wife married another friend of the prophet named Abu Lubabahرضي الله عنه and had a child named As-Saib bin Abu Lubabahرضي الله عنه .
Some historians have recorded Unais’ name as Anas. However, the correct name is Unais. Both Muhammad bin Ishaq and Muhammad bin Umar have written Unais. Unais bin Qatadahرضي الله عنه was with Rasulullahﷺ during the Battle of Badr and was martyred during the Battle of Uhud. He also did not have any children. According to one tradition, Khansa bint Khizam رضي الله عنه was married to him at the time of his martyrdom.
Unais Bin Qatadahرضي الله عنه bin Rabi‘ah was from the Ansar tribe of Aus. He accompanied Rasulullahﷺ during the Battle of Badr. He was martyred during the battle of Uhud by Abul Hakam bin Akhnas Bin Shareek. Unais bin Qatadahرضي الله عنه was married to Khansa bint Khizamرضي الله عنه.
When Unais رضي الله عنه was martyred on the day of Uhud, the father of Khansaaرضي الله عنه. settled her nikah to a person from the tribe of Muzaina. However, she did not like him and came to the Holy Rasulullahﷺ. The Holy Rasulullah. (ﷺ.annulled the nikah of Khansa. The father had settled her nikah, but the Holy Prophet (sa) annulled the nikah since she was not happy with him. After this, Khansa married Abu Lubabahرضي الله عنه and through this marriage, Hazrat Sa‘ib bin Abi Lubabah was born.
