Harithah ibn Suraqah رضي الله عنه

    .

He is Sayyidina Harithah ibn Suraqah ibn al Harith ibn ‘Adi ibn Malik

ibn ‘Amir ibn Ghanam ibn ‘Adi ibn al Najjar al Ansari al Najjari radiya

Llahu ‘anhu. His mother is Rubayyi’ bint al Nadr, the paternal aunt of

Sayyidina Anas ibn Malik radiya Llahu ‘anhu. He was martyred on the

Day of Badr by Hibban ibn al ‘Araqah with an arrow while he was

drinking from a pond. He left as a spectator on the Day of Badr but

was struck with an arrow in his throat, thus, becoming the first

martyr at Badr from the Ansar. He had no children.

Finally, it was decided that Asy Syahid Shaykh Abdullah Azam himself would inform Suraqah's death.

With that in mind, hopefully, the calamity that will be conveyed will be light

Umm Suraqah's reaction.

Asy Syahid Shaykh Abdullah Azam then strengthened the mother's heart while giving the happy news of her son's martyrdom. He also did not forget to convey tausiah to be patient. But what was the mother's answer, she answered with an answer that had been said by a generation of Muslim women of the Salaf.

Harithah ibn Suraqah رضي الله عنه was martyred in the Battle of Badr. Her mother came to ask about her child and Rasulullahﷺ said that Harithah was promised heaven. His mother came home laughing.

(Al-Bukhari)

She said, "Thank God, Suraqah has been killed and I will send another brother to take his place."

A friend once said to me," Allahﷻ entrusted one son to you, so don't waste that one. Or you will regret it forever. Don't you want to be reunited with your family in Jannah later?"

Harithah ibn Suraqah رضي الله عنه ibn al Harith ibn ‘Adi ibn Malik ibn ‘Amir ibn Ghanam ibn ‘Adi ibn al Najjar al Ansari al Najjari radiya Llahu ‘anhu. His mother is Rubayyi’ bint al Nadr, the paternal aunt of Sayyidina Anas ibn Malik رضي الله عنه. He was martyred on the Day of Badr by Hibban ibn al ‘Araqah with an arrow while he was drinking from a pond. Harithah ibn Suraqah رضي الله عنه left as a spectator on the Day of Badr but was struck with an arrow in his throat, thus, becoming the first martyr at Badr from the Ansar. Harithah ibn Suraqah رضي الله عنه had no children.

Rasulullahﷺ had contracted brotherhood between him and Sayyidina Sa’ib ibn ‘Uthman ibn Maz’un al Jumahi رضي الله عنه.

His entry into Jannat is established in the hadith of Sayyidina Anas ibn Malik radiya Llahu ‘anhu. Al Bukhari, Imam Ahmed, and al Tirmidhi report from Qatadah:

حدثنا أنس بن مالك أن أم الربيع بنت البراء و هي أم حارثة بن سراقة أتت النبي صلى الله عليه و سلم فقالت يا نبي الله ألا تحدثني عن حارثة و كان قتل يوم بدر أصابه سهم غرب فإن كان في الجنة صبرت و إن كان غير ذلك اجتهدت في البكاء قال يا أم حارثة إنها جنان و إن ابنك أصاب الفردوس الأعلى

"Anas ibn Malik رضي الله عنه narrated to us that Umm al Rubayyi’ bint al Bara’ رضي الله عنه who is the mother of Harithah ibn Suraqah approached Rasulullah and submitted, “O prophet of Allah, will you not inform me about Harithah―he was killed on the Day of Badr when a stray arrow struck him. If he is in Jannat, I will exercise patience. And if it is not so, I will cry.”

Rasulullah said, “O mother of Harithah. Certainly, it (Jannat) comprises of many gardens and your son has attained al Firdaus al A’la (the highest).”

Al Tirmidhi added:

و الفردوس ربوة الجنة و أوسطها و أفضلها

Al Firdaws is the peak of Jannat, its center, and finest.

This is also recorded by Ahmed but as Qatadah’s statement;

Subhanallah... the tausiah of a friend who made a deep impression on my heart.

Yes ummi ... let's reunite with our families in Jannah.

Another message and Al Quran verses with regards to the Myrtadom of Harithah Ibn Suraqah.

"Think not of those who are killed in the Way of Allah as dead. Nay, they are alive, with their Lord, and they have provision."

(3:169)

"( He said, 'We asked Rasulullah about that.' Rasulullahﷺ replied, 'Their souls are in the bodies of green birds that have nests hanging onto the Throne. They go about freely and eat from Paradise wherever they like and then return to those nests. Their Lord glanced at them and said, 'Do you desire anything?' They say, 'What thing can we desire when we go about freely in Paradise wherever we wish'. He asked them that three times. When they saw that He would continue to ask them, they said, 'O Lord, we wish that our souls would be returned to our bodies so that we could fight for Your sake again.' When He saw that they were not in need, they were left (to enjoy their stay in Paradise).' "

[Muslim and Tirmidhi]

Anas رضي الله عنه narrated that ar-Rubayyi bint al-Bara'رضي الله عنهwho was the mother of Harithah ibn Suraqah رضي الله عنه, came to Rasulullah and said, "O Prophet of Allahﷻ, will you not tell me about Harithah. رضي الله عنه had been killed on the Day of Badr, shot by an arrow coming from an unknown archer - for if he is in Paradise, I shall be patient but it is other than that, I shall exert myself in crying for him." Rasulullah  said, "O Umm Harithah, there are (many) gardens in Paradise and your son received the highest garden, al-Firdaus."

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 2809, 3982)

Al-Miqdam ibn M'adi Karib said that Rasulullah  said, "The Martyr will have six traits with Allahﷻ: He will be forgiven at the first moment (he bleeds); he will see his seat in Paradise (while in the grave); he will be protected from the punishment of the grave; he will be safe from the Great Frightening (on the Day of Judgment); on his head will be placing a crown of glory a ruby of which will be better than the world and what it contains; he will be wed to seventy madness with large black eyes; and he will intercede for seventy of his relatives."

 [Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah]

Abu Hurayrah'رضي الله عنه stated that Rasulullah said, "The martyr does not feel any of the pain of being killed except like what one of you feels as the pain of a pinch."

[Timidhi, Ibn Majah and Nasa'i]

The Status of Martyrs in the Sight of Allah

All praise is due to Allahﷻ, the Lord of all worlds, Who says in His Ever Glorious Book, “Do not think of those who have been killed in Allah’s way as dead. They are alive with their Lord, well provided for. Happy with what Allahﷻ has given them of His favor; rejoicing that for those they have left behind who have yet to join them, there is no fear, nor will they grieve. [rejoicing] in Allah’s blessing and favor, and that Allahﷻ will not let the reward of the believers be lost.”

I bear witness that there is no god but Allahﷻ, and that Muhammad is His Servant and Messenger. May Allah’s Peace and Blessings be upon him, his Household, his Companions, and upon those who follow their path to the Day of Judgment. Martyrdom for the sake of the Almighty Allahﷻ is one of the highest ranks and one of the greatest devotional acts. Allahﷻ chose those heroes who sacrifice themselves to support and defend the truth, protect their homeland, and save its people and territories.

Allahﷻ said in the Qur’an, “So that Allah may make evident those who believe and [may] take to Himself from among you martyrs .”

Therefore, Allahﷻ, the Almighty, has specified high ranks and great virtues and blessings for martyrs. This is so evident in the Hadith that Rasulullah said, “By Him in Whose Hands my life is! I would love to be martyred in Allah's Cause and then get resurrected and then get martyred, and then get resurrected again and then get martyred and then get resurrected again and then get martyred.”

The merits of martyrs include:

"They are alive with their Lord; it is a life beyond the perception of human beings. The Almighty Allahﷻ says, “Do not say that those who are killed in Allah’s cause are dead; they are alive, though you do not realize it.” It is reported that Jabir Ibn Abd Allah رضي الله عنه said: Rasulullah met me and told me: ‘O Jabir! Why do I see you upset?' I said: 'O Rasulullah! My father was martyred (in the battle of Uhud) leaving my family and debt behind.’” “Rasulullah said: ‘Shall I give you news of what your father met Allah with?’” He said: “Of course  O! Rasulullah!”

He said: ‘Allahﷻ does not speak to anyone except behind a veil, but He brought your father to speak to Him directly. He said: “[O My slave!] Do you wish that I give you anything?” He said: 'O Lord! Give me life so that I may fight for You a second time.' So the Lord, the Highest said: 'It has been decreed by Me that they shall not return .' Jabir said: “So this Ayah was revealed “Do not think of those who have been killed in Allah’s way as dead. They are alive with their Lord, well provided for.”

Moreover, just as martyrs are alive 3 with their Lord, they are alive in the memory of their homeland, and their heroic stories will not be forgotten no matter how long time passes. Another merit for the martyrs is: that their souls enjoy blessings with their Lord and these souls go around in paradise as they wish. Rasulullah  said, “When your brethren were killed at the battle of Uhud, Allahﷻ put their spirits in the crops of green birds which go down to the rivers of Paradise, eat its fruit and nestle in lamps of gold in the shade of the Throne.” Another merit for the martyrs is that: they will be the people of great reward and complete light on the Day of Judgement as the Almighty Allah says, “The martyrs, with their Lord, will have their reward and their light.”

Rasulullahﷺ told Umm Harithah Ibn Suraqah رضي الله عنه when she asked about the destiny of her son Harithah رضي الله عنه who was martyred in the battle of Uhud, “O mother of Harithah رضي الله عنه, in the gardens of Paradise there are many ranks, and your son has attained Al-Firdaus, the highest.” Another merit for the martyrs is that: they will intercede for their families on the Day of Resurrection; a reward from Allah to those families for their excellent upbringing and education.

Rasulullahﷺ said, “A martyr will be permitted to intercede for seventy of his relatives.” Another merit for the martyrs is that: the recording of the reward of their good deeds will not cease; rather, their rewards will be given complete and will be multiplied. Rasulullahﷺ said, “The actions of every dead person come to a halt with his death except the one who is on the frontier in Allah's path (i.e., observing Ribat).

This latter’s deeds will increase for him until the Day of Resurrection, and he will be secure from the trials in the grave." **** All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the Worlds; may Allah’s Peace and Blessings be upon Rasulullahﷺ his companions and followers: It goes without saying that the status of the martyr is given only to the true martyr, who knows the truth, protects it, and sacrifices himself sincerely for its sake. The true martyr is the one who dies while defending his land, honor, homeland, security, and safety.

Rasulullahﷺ  said, “He who is killed while protecting his property is a martyr, and he who is killed while defending his family, or his blood, or his religion is a martyr.” However, we affirm that being loyal to the lives of our martyrs obliges us to be soldiers for this great homeland, everyone in his respective 5 fields and that each of us exerts his utmost power to serve it.

We all should stand as one man behind our army, police, and other national institutions, asking Allahﷻ to grant us the reward of martyrdom as Rasulullahﷺ  said, “He who supplicates Allahﷻ sincerely for martyrdom, Allahﷻ will elevate him to the station of the martyrs, even if he dies on his bed.” May Allahﷻ save our country and all countries of the world!
